One night of severe rain, Sonic and Chip come by an old mansion where they decide to take shelter. Whilst Sonic seems unfazed by the creepy surroundings, Chip is scared out of its wits. The mansion is inhabited by three scary – yet sweet – ghosts who like to play tricks on innocent visitors: A cute and girlish ghost who likes to collect photographs of her terrified guests. The remaining two boy ghosts compete for her attention by taking photographs of their scare victims. Their scariness is the key to popularity in the realm of ghosts. The three improvised murderers are on the run, their hands covered with blood but at least they have the loot. For three weeks, intense ans unreal sobs echo amongst the city’s roofs. In this big town, devasted by violence and prohibition, three novice gangsters start their ascent in the crime world.

Bloated corpses buoy a castaway’s life raft in TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER, a grisly parable taken from the pages of Alan Moore’s WATCHMEN. One of the book’s most riveting detours, the comic-within-a-comic (read by one of the book’s characters) ominously paralleled the main events of the graphic novel. Although the beloved story was cut from Zach Snyder’s big-screen version of WATCHMEN, it’s recast here as a standalone animated program aimed at mollifying completists and ramping up interest in the adaptation. Paired with the macabre take on ROBINSON CRUSOE is another lopped-off limb from the comic: UNDER THE HOOD, a mix of live action and CGI that looks back at the salad days of Nite Owl and the Minutemen.
